What is classical Pilates?
There are different forms of Pilates. Classical educated trainers teach the traditional Pilates according to the method of the founder Joseph H. Pilates. We combine his principles with newest medical realizations.

Who can do Pilates?
Pilates is suitable for everyone, athletes, the physically active as well as individuals recovering from injuries.

How does Pilates help with lower back pain?
Pilates is designed to give greater stability to the spine by strengthening the muscles in the lower back and pelvis. Improving alignment and returning function to these areas reduces pressure on the lumbar discs, which has been scientifically demonstrated to relieve back pain.

Can Pilates prevent injuries?
Where traditional methods of training tend to produce short, bulky muscles that are more prone to injury, Pilates elongates the spine, makes muscles more elastic and joints more flexible, which reduces the potential for injury.

How do I know if my teacher is qualified?
As outlined by the Pilates Method Alliance and the Swiss Pilates Association, the Pilates education has to involve 600 hours of courses, training and apprenticeship.

Is Pilates in Zurich as established as in the US?
Pilates is well known in Zurich and gaining popularity. Nowadays Pilates is offered in various fitness studios. But there are not many fully equipped Pilates specialised studios and only a few where classical Pilates is taught.

Is Pilates challenging for men too? Yes. The training was originally designed for men.

How often should I do Pilates?
Consistent training is key. Ideally it is practiced two to three times a week. Privates and group classes can be combined.

What do I need to wear?
Wear clothing you feel comfortable moving in. You do not need shoes. You can train either barefoot or with socks. At an advanced level it is recommended to practice barefoot.

Do you have showers?
Yes.

Do you provide a parking space?
Yes.

What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations are to be made 24 hours in advance for full refund. Otherwise the session must be charged.

Can I loose weight by doing Pilates?
Pilates is not specifically a calorie or fat burning workout. But building up more musculature increases calorie burning potential. In addition, the training will boost the metabolism.

Can I do Pilates being pregnant?
If your abdominals, back and pelvic floor muscles are toned, they will support a more comfortable pregnancy and delivery. By maximising the mother's core stability before and during pregnancy, it should be possible to limit any potential harm. If you practice Pilates already you can continue your training during pregnancy. If you are pregnant and you have not done Pilates before you should wait until week 16. The traditional Pilates training will be modified accordingly.

Does Pilates help postnatal women?
Returning to exercise soon after the birth is important for the mother's physical well being. Pilates will help you to rebuild strength in your pelvic floor and abdominal muscles. You will get back into shape faster doing Pilates.

Is Pilates especially good for golfers, equestrians or tennis players?
Above all, Pilates is a holistic training. The method is unique in its balance between strengthening and stretching. A strong focus is to strengthen the body’s core, i.e. the abdominals, the back muscles and the pelvic floor. The method involves concentration and the coordination of breath and movement, thereby helping to balance the mind and body. The core stability enhances your performance in other sports. In addition, muscular dysbalance developed doing unilateral sports like tennis or golf are equalised.
